Frequently asked questions
Why does Kick Ads need accessibility access?
To tap a “Skip” button inside another app, Kick Ads first has to see which controls are on screen, and Android only allows that through an accessibility service. Kick Ads reads control text, identifiers and layout in the current app and taps skip or close buttons according to fixed rules. It is not primarily designed as a disability accessibility tool.
Is my screen content uploaded?
No. Detection runs entirely on your phone. No screenshots are taken, and screen content, other apps’ package names and activity records are not uploaded. Optional usage analytics is off by default and only measures how Kick Ads itself is used. See the privacy policy.
Why wasn’t an ad skipped?
Common reasons: the ad is custom-drawn or part of a video with no recognisable button; the button label is ambiguous; skipping is reserved for paying members on that platform; or the app is excluded from your app scope. Promotional pop-up handling is off by default and must be turned on in the app.
It says “performed”, but the ad is still there?
“Performed” means the tap was sent, not that the ad was confirmed closed. Some apps handle taps on a different control, or only allow skipping under certain conditions. If an app does this often, exclude it in App scope.
The accessibility service keeps getting turned off. What can I do?
This is Android behaviour: when an app is force-stopped (for example by a one-tap cleaner or a battery saver), Android turns off its accessibility service. Kick Ads can’t prevent this, but the settings below make it less likely. With the persistent notification enabled, the notification disappears when the service is turned off, so you notice right away.
Menu names vary by system version:
- Xiaomi / Redmi (HyperOS, MIUI): Settings → Apps → Manage apps → Kick Ads → turn on Autostart, and set Battery saver to No restrictions.
- Huawei / Honor (HarmonyOS, MagicOS): Settings → Battery → App launch → Kick Ads → turn off Manage automatically, then allow auto-launch, secondary launch and run in background.
- OPPO / OnePlus / realme (ColorOS): Settings → Battery → App battery management → Kick Ads → allow background activity; allow auto-launch in app management.
- vivo / iQOO (OriginOS): Settings → Battery → Background power consumption → Kick Ads → allow high background power consumption.
- Any phone: lock Kick Ads in the recent apps screen so one-tap cleaning skips it.
Could it tap the wrong thing?
Rules only tap clearly labelled skip or ad-close buttons. Kick Ads never acts on screens with text or password fields, and won’t tap a button whose own label or surrounding area mentions sign-in or payment. Interface changes or inaccurate labels can still cause unintended taps, so consider pausing protection before payments or sign-ins, and turn it off and review activity history if something goes wrong.
Can I use it only in some apps?
Yes. Choose the apps you want in App scope, and restore all apps at any time. System settings, permission management, installers and Kick Ads itself are always excluded.
How do I stop using it?
Turn off ad skipping on the home screen, disable the accessibility service in system settings, or uninstall the app. Activity history can be cleared in the app.
